It was like heaven, a chicken and cheese quesadilla with a little black cup of a three equal parts of salsa, guacamole, and sour cream. Finding the Burrito Bar in Barranco seemed to be one of the most difficult tasks here in Lima. If anyone in the wants some good Mexican food here, look no further than the Burrito Bar. From the first week here we knew that our group should go to the Burrito Bar, but it took us way longer to go than it should have.
Finally one day a group of us decided to go. We eventually had a large enough group of us that we almost filled a combi, a small bus/van thing. Somehow we convinced the driver and the other tariff collector to take us straight to Barranco. Once we got out it was incredibly strange because it didn’t seem as busy as most of the other districts that we had visited. The first thing that we saw was like a little central park area. In the park we saw kids break dancing to electronic music, then there were kids riding skateboards. However we didn’t go through the park. We asked some local people how to get to the Burrito Bar. But apparently we misheard the directions of one exceptionally helpful lady and ended up getting turned around. Ten minutes later we asked someone else where it was and he told us the opposite direction and we walked that way for a while. Eventually we were fed up enough to just find some place that had wifi so that could just use Google.
It was the strangest thing when we arrived, it was a small little restaurant. There was enough of us to fill up three different tables, which was about the restaurant. Most everybody ordered a burrito but I ordered a chicken and cheese quesadilla. By the time it finally arrived I felt like I could eat fridge full of food. But there it was, in all of its glory a quesadilla with chicken and cheese that was cut into four uneven slices on a white plate. It came with a black cup on the bottom part of the plate that about half the size of my fist, and a tiny little plastic spoon. In the cup were salsa, guacamole, and sour cream in almost perfect thirds. But I wanted to taste it without the toppings at first. It was a good choice. It was hot melted cheese that had some seasoned chicken on it. It was amazing, in fact so amazing that I apparently scarfed it down fast enough to not be able to remember the rest of it. I drank my soda that I had ordered with it but I can’t seem to remember the rest of the meal haha. After I had paid we left to go get some drinks at a local bar. But the Burrito Bar was definitely the highlight of that day.
