Story time. I have since I was little always had an interest in the people of the ancient Americas. You know before Christopher Columbus and the other millions of Europeans came across the Atlantic Ocean to do the things that they did. In high school it only augmented my interest when we covered the time period and I was amazed so much by that I took a Latin American history class in college to even further my understanding of the specifically the Incan and Aztec empires.
So as we were on our short flight to Cuzco from Lima I couldn't sleep because I was so excited. The first day we were there after we checked into our hotel room and we went around Cuzco learning about how the Spanish destroyed great Incan buildings to make churches and they melted down the gold that the Incas had made to worship their gods and they instead filled the churches with the gold everything to show their worship to their god. There were a few buildings that were still able to be called Incan because they were untouched by the Spanish. The next day we went to went all around Cuzco to see all these incredibly created buildings that were made for worship by the Incas. One of the incredible places was the temple of the sun which was amazing to show the work that they did to dedicate themselves to their worship. But all that wasn’t enough to satisfy me I wanted to see what I truly came for.
Sure enough we got to Machu Picchu after a long bus ride, a train ride, and another bus ride. We went all around Machu Picchu seeing and learning all about the great religious sight. All the rocks at there were brought from miles away on different quarries to be able to make the great worship place. Even the dirt was imported, the ground that was mostly made of a sand type of dirt that would not have been able to support the growth of plants for agriculture. It was truly an amazing thing to see one of the great wonders of the world.
